Asia Cup in danger as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh do not want to play in UAE

After Pakistan; Sri Lanka and Bangladesh don't want to play in Asia Cup 2023

Asia Cup 2023 is in danger as the ACC is finding it hard to convince all the participating nations to agree on a single venue.

India objected to travelling to Pakistan, which won the hosting rights, because of safety issues and also the latest unrest in the country in the wake of former PM Imran Khan’s arrest has also made it difficult for other countries to travel to Pakistan for the continental cup.

After BCCI’s decision not to send India to Pakistan, the PCB also threatened to pull out of the Asia Cup if the tournament gets moved out of their country. In the latest development, there were reports that Sri Lanka has emerged as the frontrunner to host the cup. However, Pakistan objected to that move.

Recently, Pakistan suggested the tournament be moved to UAE, similar to the last year, but Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have objected to the move, which has put the cup in danger.

Notably, the tournament will be held in August-September and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh rejected the proposal citing the heat in UAE during that time.

However, PCB chairman Najam Sethi responded to SLC and BCB’s remarks and stated that these two boards had no issue when IPL was held in 2020 around the same time and also the 2018 Asia Cup from September 15-28.
